Elizabeth Shoby is an artist and worker based in the Bronx, New York. Her studio and participatory art practice focuses on the necessity to work and its inherent relationship to debt. Her current studio project, Alphabet on Society, extends this exploration, addressing a range of interconnected social and economic issues. This series was made possible through residencies at Praxis Fiber Workshop in Cleveland, Ohio, and the Keyholder Residency at Lower East Side Printshop in NYC. Her most significant social practice work, If You Don’t Owe Somebody, examines the psychological and societal weight of debt. The project has been published in Everybody Press Review and exhibited in Chicago, Cleveland, and NYC. Shoby holds an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art (2021).
